Guy runs over three leagues and three management boards in a year and a half at EODSA without once asking members what they want, then says we need consensus because there is too much conflict. Interesting.

He really wouldn't have had much influence on the EODSA board. I assume he was only doing it to do what he could to prevent the board from being made up entirely of people from the clubs looking to hijack it. Probably gave the rest of the soccer community more insight into what was going on than people would have otherwise had. And it was definitely confrontational - it couldn't have been a comfortable environment for him to sit through those meetings with some of the others.

    2. Assumption of an individual's guiltiness because of the whole exemplifies so much so why the discussion(s) must happen. EODSA silence to its membership [as has been correctly pointed out] hasn't helped either while at the same time arming their ammunition getting ready for a fight: "Letter Regarding District Leagues".

"Irregular warfare" (analogy only of course) or civil / legal disobedience can and will be more disruptive and painful to everyone should all sides decide to go that way.

  4. This might be a case of mistaken identity. The bio does say he was part of a "comp regional team for a small club" in last 5 yrs. One vote on EODSA from a small club doesn't carry a lot of sway but the position allows for representation none-the-less. Imho.

EODSA's futsal league collapsed, I think mostly because a couple of clubs chose to run in-house instead. So the OCFL is gone, replaced by a couple of house leagues around town. That is likely what will happen with the remnants of the ERSL, and maybe the OCSL eventually too.

lol didn't the OPDP have their own tied in a nice little bow? "a couple of clubs" sounds like the usual suspects (clubs). This is how they want to inspire confidence running the entire thing?

Harold is a good guy and if more people would get on board with this constructive and cooperative approach, soccer in Ottawa would be much better than it is today.

Btw, he represents the St Anthony's club side of things. Futuro is part of St Anthony's, but he works with all teams and programs in the club. I would not call him a "Futuro guy" per se.

Not really sure why there needs to be so much animosity in Ottawa youth soccer... The "we won't play so and so" nonsense is not good for the kids. In my observation, it is mainly a unidirectional phenomenon. Eg Futuro teams would gladly play OSU.

What's going on with the Ottawa District Futsal League? It was supposed to be run under Soccer Outaouais and was to include teams from Ontario and Quebec, but it doesn't look like that happened, and the ODFL doesn't seem to exist anymore? What a friggin mess these clubs are making of this district.

EODSA was going to run it, then Soccer Outaouais, and neither got organized enough to make sure there were enough teams. ODFL has disbanded, so now there is nothing but the club house leagues, which was probably the idea all along.

When the EODSA ran the winter league a few years back, they used to put out schedules only for the current week, so you didn't really know when you would be playing past that. To make it worse, they sometimes only issued the schedule on Friday for the following day's games. This was happening because OSU and WOS would constantly complain about where and when their teams were scheduled to play, so the district had to run the schedules by them (seriously), then make changes, then run it by them again,...fast forward a few years, and there still isn't a schedule out for the winter league. I realize the season hasn't quite started yet, but I'm not expecting a whole lot from these people.

    1. So, the Association can't run a youth dev winter league because of the whims of two clubs (mutually assured destruction); continued silence, lack of planning and "we should just take their word for it because they are trustworthy?". Forget the "Technical Leadership"; bring in the financial leadearship, the public leadership, the sports leadership, heck... the spiritual leadership. They really running the EODSA as a front. I noticed that athletes who played (at least 4 of them) for the OPDP teams made the U17 (3 girls) and U20 (1 young man) National rosters this past week. Out of curiosity, did any Futuro athletes make these rosters?

Futuro's oldest boys team are 2001's, so none would be U20. I think the oldest girls team are 2003's, so again, younger than this age group. It is possible that some of them have trained with Futuro as supplementary training - there are a number of kids around who have done this, including some senior national team players, but don't know about these for sure.

There is a 2001 girl who plays on the boys team that has been with the Costa Rican national team system for a while now, and there is a 2001 boy who is on the Haitian U20 team.

Small clubs with youth would be screwed. That is probably the idea.

    3. And with that knowledege (give-in now without a fight or bruised later after the fight); the only possible outcome in sanctioned soccer, people should already know that ERSL, OCSL, futsal, rural, small, academies, etc. get screwed or obliterated anyway. And OS can not or will not do anything to rectify the current state of things,

Alternatively, unsanctioned (ERSL + OCSL + EDL + Hull + Chelsea + Aylmer + the City + others) can create a viable option. Those entities already have what any other business would kill to have: "an in" with experienced staff, logistics and trusted relationships. Why throw that away?

Remember this: https://ocsl.e2esoccer.com/ViewArticle.aspx?NewsID=3210 the "interest from certain OCSL members" proves we are not the only one who think this second otion is viable.

But the descicion needs to happen now; for 2019. There is no luxury of time and wait for analysis, surveys, assemblies, SGMs, etc. The two-faced clubs have demonstrated the stab on the back and dirty play. Time to switch it on them... cheaper, more versatile local soccer scares them.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous13/11/18

The 'interest from certain OCSL members' was the two-faced clubs. They have been pushing EODSA out of OS all along, chasing their Capital Zone idea or whatever they are calling it now.

      Delete
    5. Exactly. If those two-faced clubs with a majority of youth teams thought it was viable alternative; for all others it shouldn't be difficult to set up weekend festivals (if that is what you/they want) or regular tournament. The point is take the idea from them without their input. That scares the shit out of them. OS has demonstrated to be on perpetual stand-by, governance model and logo design priorities.

This is a person who has/had a long history of experience and participation in "sanctioned" soccer. ...And he gave up. Why would anyone spend any more cycles or give an ounce more on a lost cause? The time is now for the ERSL + OCSL + EDL + Hull + Chelsea + Aylmer + the City + others to associate on a new UNSANCTIONED organization and move on. Yes the impact will be wide ranging to different stake holders; but your alternative will not be any less detrimental in the medium to long run.

Duncanson has been pushing this restructuring as much as anyone. No one really wants radical change, to either an unsanctioned organization or the new EODSA Duncanson and the big clubs have been pushing. Ontario Soccer isn't perfect, but most of the issues OSU and WOSC have with OS don't even matter to most of us.

While in parallel, Lady Justice (legal system) strives to be blind; on the other, obnoxious soccer discipline system (while gracefully using legalese words such as appeals, rights of..., out of order, etc) is but the opposite and inherently biased to satisfy the needs of privilege clubs, associations and leagues. ...And we haven't even started to tally-up the fines given to those undeserving; and the fines waived to those who deserve it the most. Yet here we are, nothing happens, employees and volunteers, large clubs and small clubs are treated differently, and everyone is happy right?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous27/11/18

Ottawa and London would be by far the two worst from what I hear. In the past, clubs were operated as community clubs, so this type of thing wasn't going on. Some of the clubs are in reality businesses operated by certain individuals - while the clubs are still officially not-for-profit organizations, there are significant funds being flowed out from the clubs to these people as fees for services. There is nothing necessarily wrong with that, but the problem is the Canadian system is set up in a way that these individuals can take control of a district to further the own financial benefit.

Anyone remember a couple of years ago when KNSA's teams were entering the summer league through the Ottawa Futsal Club? OSU actually filed a complaint with the EODSA to prevent those kids from playing in the summer league. Ottawa Futsal League and KNSA successfully appealed and were allowed to play, so as retaliation, OSU started it's own futsal league the following fall and bought the domain name ottawafutsal.com, just to confuse things with the long-running OFC that uses futsalottawa.com. That pretty much sums up the type of stuff that's been going on here in Ottawa. Some horrible people involved in Ottawa soccer.

Ottawa Futsal Club is still going strong and they actually running semi competitive divisions because the ODFL got killed. Kids play in OSU's and then go to the OFC to play since OSU's is just a money grab with 3 or 4 age groups merged together in one division to get 4 teams. Ottawa District Futsal League (ODFL) is dead. The EODSA was to take over the ODFL and run it with Gatineau. However the clubs that said they were interested all pulled out at the last minute. That and other things probably got Ian to leave.
